What is a USB-C Multiport Adapter?
A USB-C Multiport Adapter is a connectivity device that connects your computer or laptop to a multitude of different devices through a single port. The Cable Matters Dual DisplayPort 1.4 USB-C Hub allows you to connect two DisplayPort displays, an Ethernet connection, two USB peripherals, and a USB-C Charger to your laptop through a single USB-C port.

How do I use a USB-C to Dual DisplayPort 1.4 Multiport Adapter?
The Cable Matters USB-C Dual DisplayPort 1.4 Multiport Adapter is plug-and-play. Simply plug the multiport adapter into a USB-C port on your laptop that supports DP Alt Mode, and connect your displays using DisplayPort Cables. Then, connect an Ethernet cable, USB peripherals, and USB-C charger into the hub. The hub will do the rest. If you’re not sure whether your USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode (video over USB-C), then please reach out to us with the model of your computer so that our technical support team can help check the specs.

Can I use USB-C to DisplayPort with 144hz?
With a DisplayPort 1.2 host, the Cable Matters USB-C Dual DisplayPort 1.4 Multiport Adapter can output to a single monitor with 144hz refresh rate at 1440p or 1080p resolution. With a DisplayPort 1.4 host, the Cable Matters USB-C Dual DisplayPort 1.4 Multiport Adapter can output to dual 1080p monitors at 144hz refresh rate. The Cable Matters USB-C Dual DisplayPort 1.4 Multiport Adapter does not support dual 2560x1440 monitors at 144hz. With a DP 1.4 host that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC), the Cable Matters Dual DisplayPort 1.4 USB-C Hub will support 4K@144hz YCBCR422 8bpc when a single DP monitor is connected. Since the adapter reserves two lanes of data for High-Speed USB data, there are only two lanes available for video data. To reduce the signal bandwidth enough for two lanes of data, color data must be sacrificed. This process is called chroma subsampling and does not harshly impact the quality of the picture. For more details on the number of supported displays based on the DisplayPort version of your host, please refer to the image below.
