California Proposition 65 FAQ

What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65 is a California "right to know" law passed in 1986 as The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. The law requires manufacturers of products sold in California to inform consumers of potential exposure to certain chemicals known to the state to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Why is there a warning on my product?

Certain electronic components, such as wires and circuitry, may contain trace amounts of a chemical or chemicals listed by Proposition 65. Out of an abundance of caution, we chose to include the label on all of our products because of our knowledge that the nature of electronic components means our products may contain Proposition 65-listed chemicals. The warning label appears on products not purchased in California because we ship our products in the same packaging throughout the United States.

What chemicals are included in the Proposition 65 list?

The Proposition 65 list includes more than 900 chemicals. To view a complete list of chemicals covered by Proposition 65, click here.

Should I be concerned about using your products?

While the chemical or chemicals that may be present in our products may be within the "no significant risk" range, we have chosen to err on the side of caution and include this label on all of our products to help you make an informed decision. According to the California government, "A Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean a product is in violation of any product-safety standards or requirements."

Does the warning mean your products are not RoHS compliant?

No. The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) sets concentration limits of 10 specific chemicals. Proposition 65 includes a much broader list of more than 900 chemicals, and sets exposure limits instead of concentration limits. Our products are compliant with the RoHS Directive. Our products do not contain RoHS-listed chemicals above the limits defined in the Directive.
