    What is a KVM switch?
KVM stands for Keyboard, Video, and Mouse. A KVM switch is a connectivity device that allows multiple laptops, computers, or hosts to share a multitude of USB peripherals and monitors. It allows the user to easily switch between hosts with a press of a button, without the need to unplug any cables, creating a highly efficient and effective work station.

How does a KVM switch work?
A KVM switch works by allowing you to select which host has access to the devices connected to the switch. When you select host "1", then all the monitors, and USB peripherals that are connected to the switch will be accessible to host "1", and inaccessible to host "2". When you select host "2", all monitors and USB peripherals will be disconnected from host "1" but will instead now be accessible to host "2".

Can I use this KVM switch with multiple monitors?
This KVM Switch does not natively support multiple monitors, since there is only one DisplayPort output port. It supports up to 1 monitor and 3 USB peripherals connected to two hosts. However, with a Multi Stream Transport (MST) hub connected to the DP port, you are able to connect multiple monitors. This solution is not available for Mac users, because macOS does not support MST.

Is the DisplayPort 1.4 KVM switch compatible with macOS?
Yes, the DP 1.4 KVM switch is compatible with macOS.

Does the DisplayPort 1.4 KVM switch support 144Hz?
Yes. This KVM switch will mimic the capabilities of the host that it is connected to. When connected to a DP 1.4 host that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC), this KVM switch will support 4K@144hz. It will even support FreeSync, G-SYNC, and HDR.

Is the DisplayPort 1.4 KVM Switch compatible with computers with a USB Type-C port?
The Cable Matters DisplayPort 1.4 KVM Switch is not natively compatible with computers or laptops with a USB-C port. However, if the USB-C port on your host supports DP Alt Mode which is required for video support, then you can purchase an additional USB-C to DisplayPort adapter or cable to connect the Cable Matters DisplayPort 1.4 KVM switch to your USB-C host.
